Golfing

So I recently went on to play a few rounds this past weekend in South Carolina.  Beautiful area that widely contrast from my regular courses here in Florida.  Different colors, hills, actual woods, and lakes.  Totally awesome experience.  Just taking time to get away for a weekend was splendid.  I definitely recommend it to anyone going through a tough time or just seeking to relax or have sometime away from the World.

Here is a picture of the last South Carolina course I played.

Let me know where you like to play golf or do as a weekend getaway.

NBA Playoffs

Ok so the regular season has ended and we begin the playoffs.  Who do you all have as the eventual champion?  I have the Heat coming out of the east with Thunder out the west.  I think it will be a six or seven game series with a repeat from the 2012 finals matchup, Heat come out victorious.

Let me know what you all think will happen.  Follow/ Comment / Like g+

Baseball Salaries

It seems a lot of people have been making a huge deal about the Miguel Cabrera contract.  He received a contract north of $290 million dollars.  It is a huge deal in terms of salary per year; but compared to other pro athletes they do work much more.  Almost 4 months of work rarely a day off.

Still hard to justify such a huge salary for a person who is borderline obese at best.  The supply and demand of baseball in particular the ludicrous TV contracts no make it possible to have these huge mega-deals.   Is it for the best?  Only time will tell.

Me personally, I like the Tampa Bay Rays approach.  Marginal payroll with an excellent farm and coaching system that develops a solid team year in and out.

What do you guys think?  Is baseball paying these athletes too much and leaving no room for the average fan?  Please comment / share / subscribe / like g+.

Missing Malaysia Plane?

Am I the only that thinks this is a little off?  A plane flying between two economic hegemons missing? The Vietnamese now they might have found remnants of said plane.

What could have possibly happened?  Dare to say it might have been a terrorist attack?  Was it perhaps another case of mechanical/human error a lá Air France 447?

Could this create intimidation in the form of business travels?  A lot of questions still left to be answered here.

A Dunk Contest?

I am sure that many basketball fanatics tuned in to TNT in order to watch the Sprite Dunk Contest.

Said dunk contest is under a lot of scrutiny.  A new format was instituted leaving viewers, myself included very confused.  The format/rules were drastically changed to include a team face-off and east v. west individual dunk battle.

Personally do not like or even understand the new concept. Gone are the timed individual performances that allowed the greats to put on dunk clinics (i.e. Carter, Jordan, Wilkins).  The move was so confusing (as was Nick Cannon) I could not believe the contest ended after a mere handful of dunks.

Tons of bad press has ensued, including [ESPN's] Stephen A. Smith's disapproval of the new format.  I hope for the dunk contest's sake that the old format is re-instituted.  What was the NBA thinking?  This format has clearly alienated many fans, clearly evident by the twitter hashtag #dunkcontestsucks.

Perhaps they wanted to shake things up?  Im not sure that if even if they wanted to shake things up, this is what they meant.  Albeit i'll give them this, the controversy has given them a nice amount media exposure, whether good or bad.  Regardless from a business standpoint, the NBA cannot be happy with the beginning of the post-Stern era.

5 Cars Too Fast For Road?

There’s supposed to be a clear difference between cars designed for the street and those built for the track. The line between the two gives us both the excitement of race day and a reasonable chance of coming home from the corner store alive. Sometimes, however, the distinction between the two types of vehicles grows ever-so-blurry, as the following cars show.
Porsche 991 Turbo S

This latest incarnation of the legendary 911 has a twin turbo-charged engine that turns out 560 horses, along with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed sequential double-clutch transmission. Porsche claims it can go 0-60 in 2.9 seconds. With a ride like this, even the geekiest kid from your local high school would have his choice of dates to the prom.
Whether he would return from the event in one piece is another question entirely.
Corvette C6 ZR1

With a supercharged 6.2-liter engine under the hood capable of 638 horsepower, this is by far the baddest production Corvette to date. It boasts a top speed of 205 mph. Compared to the Porsche, however, it’s a real slouch acceleration-wide, taking a full 3.1 seconds to go 0-60. Something tells me the difference is hard to notice.
Mercedes-Benz CL65 Bi-Turbo

With its 12-cylinder twin-turbo powerplant, this isn’t exactly your dad’s Mercedes. 0-60 time is a relatively sedate 4.2 seconds, though with 621 horses under the hood you’d probably shave a few seconds off the daily work commute, even if you carpool.
Lotus Exige S

This speedy little ride shows what a 1.8-liter Toyota engine can do when it’s turbocharged and inserted in an ultra-light auto body. With a 0-60 time of 4.1 seconds and a 0-100 of 9.98, this Lotus will turn heads faster than it will set the local cop’s nerves on edge. Park it in your garage next to the family mini-van and ask Junior which vehicle he would rather use for his new pizza delivery job.
Jet-Powered VW Beetle

No, your eyes don’t deceive you; that’s a VW Beetle with a jet engine sticking out of its behind. This vehicle is the odd-man-out for this list, but I included it because it is street-legal in California. Its owner, Ron Patrick, put his PhD in mechanical engineering to good use, building this high-powered bug in his garage. Patrick took advantage of the fact that CA laws allow the addition of a secondary engine, so long as the original production motor is left unmodified.  On his site, he discusses how law enforcement has been trying to figure out a way to ticket him for years, with no success.
The jet engine is a General Electric model T58-8F. It spins up to 26,000 rpm and is rated for 1350 hp. Top speed and 0-60 times are unknown because, as Patrick says, “I built the car to thrill me, not kill me.” Smart guy.
This is a great list, while I truly agree with the top two cars on the list, I don't necessarily agree with the Lotus and Mercedes.  The beetle on this list is a clearly a joke as it is a one-off customized vehicle.  I am not even sure that a turbo engine can elevate the beetle from being the laughing stock car, which it is in our culture.   To replace the bottom three cars I would interject the following 3 options.

Nissan GTR
The Nissan GTR is the equivalent of an efficient athlete thats not really at that superstar level.  Stats rivaling only the most-elite supercar manufacturers in the world for somewhere near 30-60% off the price (compared pricing to Porsche 911 Turbo and comparable Italian makes) of the "other" supercars.  The Nissan GTR has to be included in this list.   One of the fastest cars 0-60 to be in the 2 second club

Maserati Ghibli

Crazy good Super Bowl ad. Great engine roar and a $66,000 price rage make are enough for this Maserati to make the list.  Yes it has some Chrysler parts; however that engine and drivetrain are all Italian.  Sign me up.

Jaguar F-Type

A beautiful car, whose coupe version was also advertised heavily during the Superbowl.  The convertible version has the looks and the power to be a masculine power seller for Jaguar.  Unlike the Miata, this behemoth carries a great roar and punch.  A starting price of $65,000 makes this an ultra-affordable near supercar.

Well there go my three pics at 3 elegant affordable cars too fast for the road.  Clearly the list is not just based on performance; but on luxury and looks as well.  What do you guys think?  Let me know.  Please comment / subscribe / and like g+.

End of Flappy Bird ?

image
Flappy Bird, the phenom game of the last few weeks, may be making its creator rich, but it is not making him happy. So he’s taking the game off the App Store.
Dong Nguyen from Vietnam announced in a tweet on Saturday, "I am sorry 'Flappy Bird' users, 22 hours from now, I will take 'Flappy Bird' down."
It’s not clear what Nguyen cannot take. He may be referring to the widespread criticism of the game’s simple but nearly impossible mechanics, the overwhelming press attention he’s gotten, the necessity to maintain the game, or perhaps some other outside impingement. A further tweet indicates that the reason is not legal, even if Nguyen’s English does leave some room for interpretation: “It is not anything related to legal issues. I just cannot keep it anymore.”
Further tweets indicate that he is not selling Flappy Bird off, and that he will also continue to make new games.
Nguyen told The Verge that he was netting $50,000 a day from in-game advertising revenue, fueling curiosity and speculation about the reason for his decision to turn off that revenue stream.
In a tweet on February 4, he wrote, “Press people are overrating the success of my games. It is something I never want. Please give me peace.”
Get It While You Can

If you don’t have Flappy Bird yet, hurry to the App Store and download the game for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch. You have until noon Eastern Time on Sunday, February 9, based on the time Nguyen posted his notice.
Once you have the app, you should be able to continue to play it as long as it’s on your device. When apps are deleted from the App Store, they do not get erased from devices.
An app that relies on networked services to function could stop working if the services are turned off, but as far as we know all Flappy Bird draws from the Net are advertisements from a third party and a leaderboard (top scores) from Apple’s Game Center. The game should keep working. So if you’re addicted to Flappy Bird, there’s little danger you’ll have to go cold turkey on Sunday.
As far as we know this is the end of the road for this amateurish and oddly popular game.
What are your thoughts on this game?  Personally I feel as is the game got too big too fast.  Although I wonder why the owner would take it down if he is making $50,000 a day in-game advertisement.  What do you guys think is going on?  Please comment / subscribed / like g+.
